Art Exhibit: Putting the World Together – The Drawings of
Will Barnet
This traveling exhibition from the Arkansas Arts Center in Little
Rock features 75 drawings Barnet gave to the Arkansas Arts Center
in 1992. It covers a range from 1929 to 1990. Barnet, who lives
in New York, is a painter, draftsman and printmaker who has been

in art since a child. Burney started out with watercolors but
has been working in oils for the last three years. She loves to
move the paint around the canvas in a sculpting way. She feels
she has found her “artistic fit.” For Burney, getting
immersed in a world of light, pattern, color and shapes allows
her to slow down and enjoy the natural wonders around her. She
believes that as an artist she has a different way of looking

Arkansas Repertory Theater Production: Crowns
Written by Regina Taylor and directed by Tony-award-winning Arkansas
native Lawrence Hamilton, this musical is adapted from the best-selling
book of the same title by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry.
This production celebrates black women and their church hats,
providing an in-depth look at the generations-old custom that
combines faith with fashion. The story is one of family, faith,
love, loss and of finding one’s true identity, as told through

to Zion” and “His Eye is on the Sparrow” with

Petit Jean State Park – Hikes, Hearts and Hugs
A guided tour featuring the legend of Petit Jean, then a romantic,
candlelit dinner followed by dancing. The resting place of Petit
Jean is preserved at the park, which drew its name from the story
of the young French girl who disguised herself as a cabin boy
so she could secretly accompany her fiance to the “New World.”
Petit Jean, or “Little John,” the name she became
known by, became fatally ill and requested to be buried on the

UAFS Seminar: Digitizing Europe – The Search for
Images from Egypt to England Dr. Stephen Husarik traveled
25,000 miles, saw 130 major monuments in less than three months,
and came home with 3,000 digital images. The UA-Fort Smith professor
will give glimpses of his adventure. Husarik, who teaches humanities
and music at UA-Fort Smith, will discuss his semester-long trip
to Europe and how it benefits the university. When Husarik returned
from his one-semester travel sabbatical, his 3,000 digital images
included 360-degree panoramas, still shots, movies and sound clips.
His various photographs are now in a permanent electronic database
for use by students and faculty. Those attending the Feb. 15 event
will see selected photos and sound clips from the collection,
tracing the course of Husarik's journey from the Egyptian desert,
over the frigid Alps and up to Hadrian's Wall in Northern England.
His travel itinerary included Cairo, Madrid, Rome, Florence, Venice,
Milan, Paris, Brussels, Cologne, Berlin, London, Edinburgh and

Auditions for Neil Simon’s play “Chapter Two.”

Fund-raiser: A Nite at the Races
Bet on a good time at this annual fund-raiser sponsored by the
Fort Smith Junior Civic League. Guests place bets with play money
on six actual horse races. Live music by The Blue Collar Band,
a silent auction and food concessions. Box seats (center screen
table seating, two drink tickets for social hour, play money,
free soft drinks and snacks) cost $40. General seats (side screen
table seating, one drink ticket for happy hour, play money for
the races, free soft drinks and snacks) cost $25. Each seating
donation includes opportunity to win box seats at Oaklawn and
a gift certificate for dinner to the Pompeii Café and Pizzeria.
Concessions offer favorite racing foods, including corned beef
sandwiches. Cash bar also available. Must be 21. Proceeds benefit
Bost Inc., a local not-for-profit agency providing services for

Little Rock Marathon & Relay
Marathon Run the entire 26.2-mile course or just blaze a leg of
the relay marathon, divided into four separate sections. A Little

Greenwood City Limits Gospel Show 2006
A weekend of uplifting gospel music. March 10 entertainment includes
country gospel singers Gene and Micki Farington, along with Lisa
Rylee of Greenwood. Nationally acclaimed artist Rhonda Hinson
and The Chosen will perform March 11. Also featured, Makinzie
Morgan, an 8-year-old singing sensation from Kentucky and winner
of the Country Gospel Music Association’s Young Performer
